Art for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
I know I talk about mostly my art, but my husband James is a huge part of my life. Unfortunately his health has been a third wheel in our relationship. In 2011, James came back from Spain very ill. He had lost a ton of weight and was in lots of pain. Soon after he was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. In 2012 he had a really bad flare and after months of pain made the decision to remove his colon. When we were in recovery with him, the one surgeon thought that James probably had what's called Crohn's Colitis because of where his colon was affected, but nothing was ever certain.
Three surgeries later, James was still having problems. There was the emergency surgery to take a chunk of infected "stuff" out of his side (we call it his zombie bite!) because he had a fistula. Then another for exploratory surgery in January of 2013. James has been in and out of hospitals for years with flares and blockages. Then they switched his diagnosis from Ulcerative Colitis to Indeterminate Colitis and finally landed on Crohn's Disease in 2016. Recently he had surgery which involved a JPouch takedown and a permanent loop ileostomy (having an external bag the rest of his life).
Long story short, he is not a simple case! Like many other people who suffer with IBD, we are on a winding road with lots of twists and turns--many guesses but not a lot of concrete answers. We are hopeful and positive that things will start to turn around for him and he will be able to begin healing after this last surgery!
Because of all of this, I have decided that I want to create a line of jewelry to support IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). So many people suffer from these diseases in silence. I want to help remove stigmas and support research to help those who are going through these struggles. 30% of the sales from this jewelry line will go toward research and support for those suffering from IBD, Colitis, and Crohn's.
Look for this line coming soon to my shop!
Lots of love for my "French Painter" who inspires me daily. xoxo
